HIK VISION and Dahua cameras, Analog to IP Cameras
The National Defense Authorization Act, or NDAA, which outlines the budget and spending for the Defense Department each year, included an amendment for fiscal 2019 that would ensure federal agencies do not purchase Chinese-made surveillance cameras. The amendment singles out Zhejiang Dahua Technology Co. and Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology Co., both of which have raised security concerns with the U.S. government and surveillance industry
The are many companies that have existing installations of surveillance cameras . HIK Vision cameras and recorders were installed because of Cost and ease of use. Below is a completed project
The Customer had Hikvision equipment, 8 IP Cameras and 8 analog cameras and a NVR. The Network Video device was on the same network as the domain controller, Files shares and Local PC’s. The hikvision software enabled remote veiwing by logging into a HIK VISION website that was located in China and communicated through HTTP to the company server in Pittsburgh. While being very easy to setup and inexpensive to set up, the security risk was very high.
The solution
Disconnected NVR from Network
Changed Passwords associated with NVR
Setup NVR for access through tcp ports
Setup Firewall ports for Access to NVR
Created user accounts on NVR with appropriate levels of access.
Configured Phones for access through the firewall
Setup AXIS Server with Camera Station
Used existing IP cameras and Analog Cameras
Added 8 AXIS Cameras
Setup user accounts for access through firewall.
